Fall 2024 Training Pre- Registration

The New Mexico Higher Education Department, New Mexico Public Education Department and New Mexico Educational Assistance Foundation are providing New Mexico High School Counselors and New Mexico College Access Professionals the opportunity to receive the New Mexico Financial Aid Access Professional Certification. The goal of this certification is to increase the impact of professionals throughout the state. We know that the more people who can talk with parents and students and guide them through the process, the more students who will be able to make their goal of obtaining a college degree a reality. This certification can also provide professionals with validation of their competencies related to financial aid that can be used when applying for jobs.
College Access Professionals work diligently to assist students in New Mexico with finding available aid to make higher education a possibility. Professionals who have a strong understanding of the financial aid application process, eligibility requirements, New Mexico State Aid eligibility requirements and how all of this works to meet the Cost of Attendance are better able to advise students and parents. The New Mexico Financial Aid Access Professional Certification provides training to interested High School Counselors and College Access Professionals. The training consists of 6 hours of instruction and concludes in an exam to show mastery of the subjects. The training is provided free of charge to New Mexico Counselors and College Access Professionals.

Components of the training include:
  • Financial Student Aid Programs
  • FAFSA Application Process
  • New Mexico State Aid Programs
  • Student Eligibility for Federal and State Aid
